The Program
On its surface, the Green Cove program is just like what you’ll find at New York’s other great day camps. We offer a wide variety of activities, each with a high quality of instruction in top notch facilities. That’s what your kids will come home talking about: how much fun they had at camp that day. However, as you look just below the surface, you’ll find a great intentionality around how those activities were designed to support our philosophy of imparting character, developing independence, and honing social skills.

Each camper will be a part of a group of 8-10 kids who will have 3 counselors traveling with them throughout the day. Those counselors will be supervised and supported by a Division Head who will engage with the campers throughout the day, as well as being a resource to parents.
Campers will spend 3-4 periods a day with their group. Smaller group size and fewer transitions offers campers the space and time to engage in their group activities, make friends, and develop skills with the guidance and encouragement of counselors and activity specialists.
Built into the day will be supervised Free Play for campers to choose informal activities (i.e., cup stacking, boxball, reading, lanyard making, board games, Rubik’s cube, etc.). The goal is for campers to connect with peers from different groups, with counselors there to actively help them navigate this open time.
Choice
While program consistency brings predictability and comfort to campers, we also recognize the importance of choice. Offering campers the daily chance to self-select activities that they are organically drawn to is important for their development. In addition to deepening skill levels, the opportunity to form relationships with peers who have similar interests is a great way to build connection.
Electives
Our Lower Village campers will have one elective period a day and Upper Village campers will have two elective time periods in their schedule. These electives will rotate weekly, offering campers variety, the flexibility to meet new kids, and the opportunity to try new things. Magic, Karate, Volcanos, Robots, Dance and Circus are just a few of the amazing electives we have in store this summer.
Special Events
Camp-wide special events provide the opportunity to create unity, fun and lasting memories. Whether a themed day (i.e., Space Adventure) or a visiting program (i.e., Fencing) these experiences are sure to excite the imagination!

Swimming at Green Cove
Campers and staff will travel on a camp vehicle from Iona’s Bronxville campus to the New Rochelle campus where they will swim daily in a heated pool. Certified Lifeguards will be onsite.
Families will select a swim option for their child:
- For children who are ambivalent about getting in the pool: Staff will provide gentle encouragement and support with the aim of giving campers increased confidence and comfort in the water.
- For children who want free swim without instruction: Staff will ensure children are safe in the water and will facilitate socialization and play with other campers.
- For children who are interested in gaining deep water skills: Staff will provide instruction and ensure that campers stay motivated. Skills will focus on deep water safety and will include floating, treading, and swimming to the wall.
Your children’s safety is of utmost importance, so ALL campers will need to be assessed at the start of camp as to their level of ability in the water.
